September 21, International Day of Peace: the “Zanmi Timoun” Foundation demands a better future for children.

Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981, the International Day of Peace is celebrated this year around the theme: “Action in favor of peace: our ambitions for the global goals. » It is important to remember that without lasting and real peace in the world, it is impossible to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. In Haiti, armed groups are sowing terror in several corners of the world. the district of Port-au-Prince and in certain provincial towns. Indeed, the Haitian people no longer know which way to turn. The descent into hell continues for the Haitian population and children are paying the heavy consequences.

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), nearly 200,000 people are now displaced across the country, half of whom are children. It should be noted that among these displaced people, there are a large number of disabled people. In addition, the mental and physical health of the Haitian population is constantly deteriorating. Children are increasingly psychologically vulnerable because they are eye and ear witnesses to scenes of violence, looting and fires.

During a recent visit by a delegation from the “Zanmi Timoun” foundation to sites housing displaced people from Carrefour-Feuilles, she was stunned to see the extremely precarious conditions in which the children who live in the most abject promiscuity find themselves floundering. . Girls aged 9 to 15 share the same space as adult men, they have no privacy. The risk of rape and sexual assault is imminent and constant.

Therefore, on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, the “Zanmi Timoun” Foundation, a Haitian organization defending the rights of children and deprived young people, launches a vibrant appeal to all stakeholders concerned, especially to state authorities, asking them to fully guarantee the internal security of the country which has been taken hostage by armed groups for more than two years. Furthermore, it asks state authorities to create and maintain a climate of peace and serenity throughout the territory, in order to allow future generations of the country to experience a better tomorrow. The “Zanmi Timoun” Foundation firmly believes that peace and security are essential elements for the social and economic development of any nation.
