The “Zanmi Timoun” foundation is affected by the disappearance of activist journalist Liliane PIERRE-PAUL

The “Zanmi Timoun” Foundation learned with immense sadness of the departure of journalist Liliane PIERRE-PAUL, a fervent fighter for freedom of expression in Haitian society. Liliane left a positive mark in the Haitian Press sector and in the fight for Sovereignty and Democracy in Haiti. She was a model of courage, resistance and determination. Her legacy will live on through the many fights she led for freedom of expression and human rights in difficult and dangerous contexts.

Liliane was a journalist and activist for freedom of expression in Haiti for more than 40 years. She participated in the founding of Radio Kiskeya in 1994 and the founding of the National Association of Haitian Media (ANMH) in 2001, an association which promotes pluralism and freedom of the press, two intrinsic characteristics of democracy. She received the Courage Prize in Journalism from the International Media Foundation in 1990, and also laureate of the Roc Cadet Prize from SOS Liberté in 2014. She has always demonstrated conviction, integrity and above all, unwavering commitment to regarding the fight for the well-being of the Haitian population.

In recognition of its commitments in the fight for the construction of a free, egalitarian and just society, the “Zanmi Timoun” Foundation presents its sympathies particularly to his family, his friends, to members of the press sector in general and his collaborators at Radio-Télé Kiskeya and to all those affected by this completely unexpected death.
